On hearing a new and intriguing song
Incredibly, I had never heard any music by Velvet Underground until earlier today. Now I have.
To 'Venus in Furs' Monstrous! Monstrous! Dark and stately
Drifting soft on perfumed wings;
Wretched majesty, heard so lately,
Deep and damned your discord sings:
"Severin! Severin!" cries the refrain,
"Different colours made of tears..."
Such sweet and swift poetic pain
I have not heard in countless years.
"Kiss the boot of shiny, shiny leather;"
All hope for glee within ye dies.
The frantic fetishist knows whether
These are truths, or these are lies.
Velvet! Velvet! I could never dream
That such a bold and breathless art
Could glide forth softer than a scream.
"Strike, dear mistress, and cure his heart."

I've also been struck by a truly legendary and incredible idea for a novel; the first such good idea I have ever had. It could become the next Thing, if marketed properly, though I will of course have to write it first.
I won't spoil it for you at the moment, but I can declare unequivocally that it is completely unique, and potentially controversial enough to draw threats of death from the more panicky citizens of the world. We shall see.
